Submission Guidelines

As a community service, WHYR-LP periodically makes public service announcements on behalf of non-profit organizations and community groups. In preparing your announcement, keep it concise and clear, and include all relevant key information:
  • Who: The presenter or organization
  • What: The event, or call for volunteers or donations, or service being offered
  • When: The date and time of the event, or deadline if appropriate
  • Where: The location of the event
  • Whom: Name, phone number, or website to obtain more info.
You must adhere to the FCC Guidelines:
  • Announcements may not contain an inducement to buy, sell, rent, or lease.
  • Announcements may not contain comparative or qualitative language. For example, it's inappropriate for an announcement to contain: "Please attend event X, because it's better than event Y."
  • Prices can be included, though will not be announced on the air.
To submit your announcement for consideration, simply send a plain text e-mail to psa@whyr.org. To speed processing at our end, please include the proposed announcement as a paragraph within the body of the e-mail (as opposed to sending it as an attachment). If this is your first time submitting announcements to WHYR on behalf of your organization, please include a separate paragraph introducing your organization to us. Be sure to include the official name as registered with the State of Louisiana and/or the IRS, and whether you are a 501(c)(3). Relevant documents may be included as attachments.

Requests for PSAs should be submitted at least two weeks in advance. Submission does not guarantee acceptance, nor a specific schedule of announcements.

Once received, reviewed, and approved, the announcement will be placed in the WHYR-LP PSA Log Book, making the PSA available for all on-air programmers to share during their programs. In addition, WHYR might decide to include the announcement on our PSA webpage, in recorded on-air community calendars, and in our online community calendar.
